Natural Habitat
- Native to the grasslands and savannas of West and Central Africa.
- Known for their docile nature and tendency to curl into a ball when threatened, hence the name "ball python."
Housing Requirements
- Enclosure Size: A 40-gallon tank for adults; juveniles can be housed in smaller enclosures.
- Substrate: Coconut coir, aspen bedding, or reptile carpet. Avoid cedar or pine, which are toxic.
- Hiding Spots: Provide at least two hides - one on the warm side and one on the cool side.

- Basking Spot: 88-92°F (31-33°C)
- Ambient Temperature: 75-80°F (24-27°C)
- Humidity: 50-60%; increase to 70% during shedding.
- Tips: Use a thermostat to control heating elements and a hygrometer to monitor humidity.
Diet & Feeding
- Diet: Rodents, such as mice or rats, appropriate to the snake's size.
- Feeding Frequency:
- Juveniles: Every 5-7 days
- Adults: Every 10-14 days
- Tips: Offer pre-killed prey to avoid injury to your snake.
Common Health Issues
- Respiratory Infections: Caused by improper temperatures or humidity; symptoms include wheezing and open-mouth breathing.
- Shedding Problems: Incomplete sheds are often due to low humidity.
- Mites: Small parasites visible on the snake's body; treat with anti-mite products.
